For brunch in Orange County, The District at Tustin Legacy is hard to beat, because one table gives you an open-air patio, an all-day breakfast menu and halal cooking. That table is at Utopia European Caffe, 2489 Park Ave. You do not have to choose between a good seat, a good plate and a good cup. Utopia is open Tuesday through Sunday, 8:30am to 11pm, and breakfast is served the whole time.
Here is what makes it work for brunch, what to order, and how to plan a group.
A brunch spot is judged by three things
Most “best brunch” lists come down to three things: the setting, the food, and how long you can stay. The District at Tustin Legacy is an open-air shopping and dining center, so the setting is already handled. It feels like a place you go on purpose.
Utopia’s patio sits right in it. The food leans Turkish and Mediterranean, so brunch here means omelettes, breakfast platters, börek, olives, cheeses and eggs cooked simply. And breakfast does not stop at 11am. If you show up at 2pm on a Sunday and want a full breakfast platter, you get one.
The patio
Utopia has an outdoor patio at The District. Bring a laptop, a stroller, a book club or a few friends, and let the morning take its time. Well-behaved dogs are welcome, and parking is free throughout The District.
What to order for brunch at Utopia
Build the table from a few plates instead of one big entree.
- Mediterranean platter. Eggs, caprese salad, soujouk sausage, kashar cheese, feta and brie, with jam, honey, olives and toasted bread on the side. The most European brunch plate on the menu.
- Madridian omelette. Soujouk sausage and melted five cheese, topped with fresh tomatoes and bell peppers. Order this if you want something specific to Utopia.
- French platter. Eggs, home-fried potatoes, soujouk sausage, a croissant, sautéed brussels sprouts and brie, with fresh fruit, jam and butter.
- Börek or simit for the table. Börek is a savory pastry of thin, flaky dough. Simit is a toasted sesame bagel with cream cheese, honey or jam. Either one turns two plates into a spread.
- Turkish coffee or Turkish tea. The coffee comes in a traditional kahve finjan. The tea is a strong black tea in a traditional Turkish glass.
All of Utopia’s meat is halal, so a mixed group can order off one menu. See the full menu before you go.
Brunch with kids and groups
The all-day timing means there is no brunch window to race, and the menu has enough range for picky eaters and adventurous ones. The patio works for birthdays, baby showers, team breakfasts and book clubs. For a group, call (714) 352-5789 ahead for reservations and menu planning.
